Limited Edition Reproductions
A 36”h x 45”w giclee reprodcution on canvas of my piece, “No Loss Forgotten”. This was taken from above as it was rolled out on our dining room table. Toby was just about to stretch it over the wooden frame that you can see just above it in the picture. The original piece was 48”h x 60”w and sold in 2019 as an art show I was doing in Scottsdale, AZ. I will do 50 reproductions of this piece on canvas in this size.
I make my art by hand using a collage technique and then painting with acrylic paint. For the larger pieces it takes me months. When I finish a piece I take it to get professionally photographed by a company called Raven Image in my original hometown of Jacksonville, FL. For context, Raven Image is a company made up of two people, and I’ve worked with them so long they’ve seen my kids grow up, leave home for college, graduate, come back home, and leave again. It’s been a while!
Once they have my original, they photograph it. Keep in mind these are professionals with decades of experience and all the updated technology. After they photograph the piece they keep for a bit as they work to color-match They do test prints for both paper and canvas reproductions. They get proofs to me that I will either approve or offer feedback. If I have feedback, they make the changes and resend.
We work back and forth a bit before coming to point where I am satisfied that what I am seeing. I want them to be as close of to the original piece as possible. And of course, I get the original piece back from them when this part of the process is complete.
From there I work with them to send me a fairly small, initial run of reproductions both on paper and on canvas. Yes, not only do they photograph the image for me, they also do all of my printing. Again, they’re pros with all the right equipment.
I start cautiously because I already have a lot of artwork in inventory ready to go with me on the road. And while there are certain pieces that sell better than others, there’s no single piece that is the absolute favorite. With that in mind, I tend not to expect whatever my newest piece is to fly right off the shelf.
I want to pause here to state how I define “limited edition”. I don’t feel like there is any industry standard. I’ve looked and researched, and I’ve found that different artists and different galleries do different things. I can explain what I do, but I would urge you not to read this and expect another artist to do it the same way. And honestly, I reserve the right to change what I do, as the world changes and circumstances change.
But what won’t change is that they will always stay limited, I won’t switch to an open edition. Further, I’ll always try to maintain some sense of affordability, while also upholding the idea the art I create has value and is important.
As for reproductions on paper here is how I do it.
There are a range of sizes all based on the original piece, meaning I don’t crop or condense the reproductions. Everything offered will be proportionally smaller or larger versions based on the dimensions of the original piece.
There are two different kinds of fine art paper that I print on - an Epson Matte and a Cotton Rag. The Epson Matte is smooth very white, while the Cotton Rag has a bit of a textured tooth to it and is more ivory in color.
Each size on each paper will have a limit. For example, I’ll do a 16x12 print of a piece printed Epson Matte that is limited to 100. I will do the same piece also printed 16x12 but on Cotton Rag that is limited to 250. I set these limits myself.
My piece With Each Breath is one of my more popular pieces and, as a result, has more size options than most. Below are the options. You’ll notice all the options are square which is because the original piece was square (48”x48”). Additionally, you’ll see that the Epson Matte is less expensive than the Cotton Rag.

If you do the math on all the sizes for both papers, there are 900 prints available. However, I will do some even bigger prints for this piece and I think the ultimate number will be 1,000 - 1,200. And honestly, that’s more than I originally thought I’d do, 10 years ago. But then as time went on and I traveled to more places, such as California, Utah, Chicago, etc. I realized that there are millions of people out there and if a print is limited to 1,000 or even 2,000, that’s still so unique and special. I want each piece to be accessible across the country, so that means the limit can’t be too small.
Moving to canvas reproductions, it’s really about the same, only more limited. This is how I do it.
There are a range of sizes all based on the original piece, meaning I don’t crop or condense the reproductions. Everything offered will be proportionally smaller versions based the dimensions of the original.
There is only one kind of canvas that I print on.
Each size has a limit of 50.
Below are the available canvas reproduction options for the same piece I used as an example above, With Each Breath.
20" x 20" x 1.5" - $350. Limited to 50. (Currently on 9 - Mar/17/2025)
24" x 24" x 1.5" - $450. - the edition is full. All 50 of 50 have sold.
30” x 30” x 1.5” - $575. Limited to 50. (Currently on 7 - Mar/17/2025)
36" x 36" x 1.5" - $800. Limited to 50. (Currently on 33 - Mar/17/2025)
40" x 40" x 1.5" - $950. Limited to 50. (Currently on 13 - Mar/17/2025)
48" x 48" x 1.5" - $1,500. Limited to 50. (Currently on 22 - Mar/17/2025)
I could maybe see myself adding one more - at 44 inches. But that would be it. So, in all there would be only 350 canvas reproductions offered in total for all sizes. Again, in the context of this country that seems very limited.
So, wrapping up the original question - I create the artwork by hand and then get it to Raven Image for them to photograph. I then set the sizes that will be offered as reproductions and begin having Raven print them as I build up an inventory to take with me to art shows. Or to fulfill an order that I received thru this website. And that’s how it’s done!
